The tavern in Gravesend.

This might have been the tavern that used to stand at 21 Bath Street in Gravesend. This place closed in 1964 and has since been demolished.
There is another very ancient Ship Inn at Betsham, a hamlet which these days falls within the general Gravesend area. However, this is located about 5 miles south-west of Gravesend itself and seems a less likely candidate for Sam's rendezvous point.
