Ye Olde King’s Head still exists, on what is now Church Street, formerly the high street of Epsom.

It was built in the mid-16th century, and where Pepys probably stayed next door was built in the early 17th century.

The party house where Nell and "the boys" stayed is probably gone, and the road today is quiet, rural, with a church and churchyard across the road, parts of which date from the 12th century, It’s easy to image what a lovely hideaway it must have been for a couple of summer months, especially for Nell, who wouldn’t have had experienced anything before in her life but the smell, noise and crowds of London.

I wonder where the Houblons lived.
