Daily entries from the 17th century London diary
The Stevenson/Steventon who was Hewer's uncle may have been John Stephenson, traceable as a purser in 1655, 1664, and 1676.
I.e., not the 1664-5 Mayor of Portsmouth whose debauched wife was " acidentally burned to death in 1665 when in a drunken stupor."
from L&M Companion, where ironic understatment and letting the chips fall-as-they-may please me endlessly.
