Why, in Latham, is it implied that Wood's wife and Barbary Sheldon are two different women (a comma appears after 'his wife'#, an implication further compounded when, later in that entry, Latham suggests that the two people who accompanied the Pepys's and Creed to the Bankside inn were not Mr and Mrs Wood at all, but Barbara Knipp #and her husband#?

I have to say I am rather disappointed by Latham, whose notes are distinctly sketchy. Heresy?

Mrs. Barbary -- this must be the Pepys' nickname for Barbara Sheldon Wood, who had been acting as Elizabeth's companion in Woolwich since Mary Mercer moved employment to Elizabeth Pepys Turner's establishment. A rare case where L&M complicated the matter.
