Clerk to Blackborne in the Navy Office in 1660; to Coventry in the Navy Office 1660-7: clerk in the Admiralty in the 1670s; Clerk of the Acts 1677-86, 1688-90; Navy Commissioner (Old Accounts) 1686-8; Secretary to the Admiralty 1690-4; Extra Navy Commissioner 1695-1702 (retired). Pepys took a low view of his ability as Secretary to the Admiralty and found him an ungrateful protege.
