Daily entries from the 17th century London diary
This graph shows Samuel Pepys’ monetary wealth as he reported periodically in his diary. It shows from the first mention of his wealth (29th January 1660) up until “today” — the most recent day in the diary displayed on this site.
The values given for today’s monetary equivalent are extremely rough and are only the vaguest guide. They are based on a conversion from 1660 values using this converter although there are other alternatives giving different values, as discussed in the Encyclopedia entry on “Values today”.
The dates on the x-axis are the dates on which he reported his wealth in the diary, although some (even on the larger version) have been omitted for clarity. But they still give a rough idea of the varied frequency at which he mentioned his wealth.
