  • The wife of the notorious Parliamentarian Sir Gilbert Pickering, who was one of the judges at the trial of Charles I: and also the sister of Lord Montagu. She would have been in her late 30s or early 40s at the time of the Diary.

  • The “pardon” that Gilbert Pickering received in the end (through Pepys’s and then Sandwiches mediation and some money given to him by Lady Pickering ?) seems to be in an american collection now; see:
