*The Ghosts* by Mr. John Holden
Pepys’s record of having seen this “very simple play” 17 April 1665 is “the first record of its having been performed.” (L&M note) Holden is also credited with “The German Princess” 15 April 1664, dramatizing a real-life fraud, starring the perpatratix herself and also called “simple.” http://www.pepysdiary.com/archive/1664/04/15/index.php
