    Capt. Francis, d. by 1688, of the Sweepstake, held two commands in 1665

    Capt. Joseph, held three commands in 1665-6, killed in action 1666.

    Capt. ——, Gabriel or Robert, both Commonwealth veterans.

  • Four possible candidates, per L&M Companion:

    Michael should that be three candidates?

    It is interesting to note that in Sandwich’s Journal there is no mention of a Saunders in the Fleet lists of April and September of 1665.

    There is a Captain Francis Sanders on the hired Merchantman Constant Catherine (4th Rate)

    Also a Captain Robert Sanders on the hired Merchantman Loyal Merchant (210 men and 44 guns) in April, and then switches to the Constant Catherine in September.
