Annotations

  • Poor fellow! No listing in the Companion, no appearance in the “Shorter Pepys” or Tomalin—-no afterlife save as Sam’s debtor. Can the possessor of an L&M rescue him from cyber-oblivion?

  • As if to add insult to injury …
    Both the Wheatley and the L&M list him as Ned (not Ted) Osgood. In both cases he exists sans the footnote needed to rescue him from mere oblivion. Makes one wonder where the Gutenberg got Ted from.

  • Ned or Ted?

    He appears later in this version of the diary as N. Osgood and then Ned Osgood. Both times he’s with John Goods so he’s probably another of my Lord’s servants.
