“Martha’s(Washington) first father-in-law and Daniel Parke Custis’ father was John Custis IV. As far as my(Helen Bryan)research revealed, the Custis family of Virginia , though of English origin, had owned a well known inn in Holland prior to emigrating to Virginia colony probably around 1640.”

An Edmund Custis b 1623 Gloucestershire England to Henry Custis & Joan Powell. His mother, Joan, died 1661 in Rotterdam, Holland thus establishing posible connection.

Custis, Edmund
Merchant, of St. Dionis Backchurch; he lived for some time in the 60’s and70’s in Bruges. In 1679-80, when Pepys was accused of treason, he supplied useful information against Scott, his accuser.
