Eward Molins was the son of one surgeon famous for his reputation in treating ‘the stone’ and the father of another. He succeeded his father, James, as surgeon at St. Thomas’s Hospital and as lithotomotist at both St. Thomas’s and Bart’s Hospitals. Although a surgeon to the Royalist forces during the Civil Wars, he treated Oliver Cromwell for the stone (allegedly refusing any payment for his services) and then took up his hospital posts again after 1660. During the Restoration period he and Hollier alternated annually as lithotomists at Bart’s and Tommy’s.
His death resulted directly from the amputation of his leg following a bad fracture.
