Just before the Restoration he was notoriously anti-King, so much so that Pepys instantly thinks of his reaction upon hearing (22 April 1660) of the king’s arms being raised at his church.
However, Simpson obviously didn’t let such feelings stand in the way of a promising career, which included:
Barrister, Inner Temple; one of four Common Pleaders of the City of London; Recorder of St. Albans 1661-81; Judge of Sheriff’s Court, London 1671-81; Bencher, Inner Temple 1673; King’s Serjeant 1678. Knighted 1678, died 1681.
