Annotations

  • Not the Cromwellian Admiral Blake, who had been Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports and had died before the Restoration.
    Originally captain of the Newbury in Montagu’s 1660 fleet, on 15 April 1660 he was given command of the Worcester in place of Capt. Deakins. According to the L&M Companion he died not long after, in 1661.

  • On 30 April 1660, given command of a squadron of 4 ships convoying merchants to the Mediterranean.

  • Robert Blake was the nephew of Admiral Blake. He had commanded the Newbury since 1656.
