John of Austria (24 February[1], 1547 - 1 October 1578), in English traditionally known as Don John of Austria, and in Spanish as Don Juan de Austria [2], was an illegitimate son of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. He became a military leader in the service of his half-brother, Philip of Spain and is best known for his naval victory at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571.
one
He was natural son of Philip IV., King of Spain, who, after his father’s death in 1665, exerted his whole influence to overthrow the Regency appointed during the young king’s minority.—B.
This is not the hero of Lepanto and the scourge of the Netherlands, who died in 1578, but Don Juan José de Austria, Count of Oñate (1629-1679), a natural son of Philip IV and an actress. Despite an undistinguished military career which included losses to English forces at Turenne in 1658 and Estremos, Portugal in 1663, Don John became viceroy of Aragon and, shortly before his death, first minister of Spain.
“Don Juan José de Austria, Count of Oñate (1629 - 17 September 1679)) was a Spanish general and political figure. He served as the prime minister of Spain between 1677 and 1679.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_of_Austria_the_Younger
