L&M Companion says “it seems to have been one of the many alleys on the e[ast] side of the Fleet Valley between Fleet and Holborn Bridges.”
L&M conjecturally place Fleet Alley near Fleet Lane in the part of London burned in the Great Fire of 1666 in this segment of the 1746 map or the segment to its S. near the Fleet Prison — just the neighborhood for a “Red Light District.” http://www.motco.com/map/81002/SeriesSearchPlatesFullb.asp?mode=query&artist=384&other=293&x=11&y=11
