He was an eminent London merchant, chairman of the East India and Turkey companies; knighted 10th July 1662. He was one of the principal inhabitants of St. Olave’s, Hart Street, in the church of which parish he lies buried, and where his statue is still to be seen. He died 6th September 1672, at the age of 68. He was father-in-law to John, Lord Berkeley of Stratton. (Warrington)
