Coach and Horses (“Game’s”, Aldgate ) was both a popular tavern, oft-frequented by Pepys, and a hostelry after which it was named, run by John Game, as Phil Gyford says, and can still be found in 1746 near the NE corner of this segment of the Rocque map, running W off Aldersgate Street, just N of Half Moon Alley and S of Smish (?) This be Aldgate, far nearer to walk to,and pick a nag, not two miles away at Aldersgate, that be be my take, not the other side of Cornhill.
Coach and Horses: Aldgate it be up Crutched friers, Poor Jewry Lane [ Sam would know it by another name?] so many Stables and Inns to chose from in this area. Name may have changed to protect the innocent, or the hide from the debt collector.
