    Clerk in the Victualling Office under the Commonwealth; accountant and Clerk of the Issues in March 1660; Manager, Ticket Office 1673-4.

  • I have a letter addressed to one “Mr. Thomas Lewis at the East India House in London” written by his cousin E. Lewis in Chester on 9th November 1696. This would, of course, have been the original East India House - adapted from Sir William Craven’s mansion house in 1648 - and hence the same as that referred to in Sam’s diaries.
