Resident of the Axe Yard
L&M Companion:
The diary evidence makes it probable that the Mr Wade of the victualling, the Mr Wade of Axe Yard and the Mr Wade who attempted to discover treasure in the Tower were all the same person. He was Thomas, who occurs as an officer of the Commonwealth victualling commission, first appointed ‘deputy-check’ for Dover, Deal and Sandwich in Feb. 1653. He was also the Mr Wade, ratepayer, of Axe Yard (1658)and probably also the Thomas Wade who in July 1660 was engaged in discovering concealed royal lands.
