  • nice family setting?:The Saltonstall Family (c 1636-37) in Tate Britain. http://www.kipar.org/period-galleries/paintings/1660/saltonstall_1660.jpg
The Saltonstall family were prominent under Queen Eliza 1 : Sir Richard Saltonstall (Lord Mayor 1597-8). His son, Sir Thomas, was the well-known parliamentary commander in the Civil War http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/Documents/aldermen_of_london.htm
Sir Samuel Saltonstall, son of a Lord Mayor of London. He it was who bore the costs of printing Smith’s Sea Grammar…..shown are the arms for his blazer ………………
Sir Samuel’s first cousin, Sir Richard Saltonstall(1610-1694), founded the Massachusetts branch of the family which continues to this day…..

Sir Richard after his problems with Powers to be, lived off Coleman street in/on Swanne alley.[if that be near the Covent garden market could explain her Ladyships’ connection, not wanting to live a life in the wilds of Massachusetts ?.]

  • The Richard Saltostall that founded the American Branch was the father of the Richard Saltonstall cited by Vicente.

  • After looking up on the Saltonstall family history, the most likely candidate for the “terrible storm” story is not the first (+1630) or second wife of Sir Richard (+1640)(from the picture), but the THIRD wife, Martha Cammock, who became his widow in 1661. She would certainly be called a person of quality. There were two daughters Saltonstall but they were married (and not be called Lady Saltonstall) and the young Sir Richard lived in America so would not have a wife or children in London at the time.

  • I’am an 18 year old male of the Saltonstall family in Sevierville Tennessee if you have any information about the originality of the Saltonstall family i would greatly appreciate it if you e-mailed me.

    Sincerely yours,
    Andrew Saltonstall

Sir Richard SALTONSTON, Lord mayor of London 1597
engraved from an unique print in the collection of Sir John St.Aubin Bar.
    PUB. 1794.

  • I am from Sevierville Tennessee originally and was wandering if there was any correlation between the Saltonstall family in MA and the one here in TN. Any info is greatly appreciated.
