1893 text

Theodore Goodgroome, Pepys’s singing-master. He was probably related to John Goodgroome, a Gentleman of the Chapel Royal, who is also referred to in the Diary.

This text was written as a footnote in the 1893 Wheatley transcription of the diary, the same one that is used for the diary entries on this site.

Annotations

  • John Goodgroome
    (c. 1625-1704). Royal musician in ordinary; counter-tenor; viol, violin and lute player; singing-master and composer. Two of his songs are printed in “Musica Britannica” 39/items cxii, cxiii. The ‘Theordore’ Goodgroome who appears in previous editions seems to be a ghost. (article by Richard Luckett)
