  • To provide illumination as to why the entry alluding to Milford on May 30th 1661 should warrant censorship, in her book “Samuel Pepys, The Unequalled Self”, the author, Claire Tomalin, states that “at Milford Stairs there was a public convenience, mentioned by Pepys on 30th May 1661” (Tomalin, 2002, bottom illustration adjacent to page 104).
