The Exchequer offices were in the palace of Westminster, on the eastern side of New Palace Yard. Pepys worked here in the early years of the diary.

On display in the foyer of the National Audit Office in Buckingham Palace Road is a Memo written by Pepys during his time at the Exchequer. Also an original checkered accounting cloth, a variant of the abacus which is where the expression “Exchequer” originated.
