    Kt 1661 (d. 1669). Baltic merchant and navy contractor; member of the Tangier Committee and the committee of enquiry into the Chatham Chest from 1662, and of the Royal Fishery from 1664; Pepys preferred Capt. John Taylor. He had an imposing Elizabethan country house at Bethnal Green and was allowed by licence to drive his coach across the green to church. At the time of the Fire, Pepys sent his valuables there (including his journal) for safe-keeping. His wife was Priscilla, daughter of Roger Tweedy.
