  • “(d. 1663) Pepys colleague in the Exchequer; after 1660 managing clerk to Backwell the goldsmith-banker http://www.pepysdiary.com/p/967.php Possibly a relative of Sir John Shaw, who was an associate of Backwell. He was awarded 1000l for special (i.e., secret) services in 1662. He was about 30 when he died.”

    Note that his wife, Sarah, was reported as dead in the entry for the 4th of August 1660. He was at that time cited by L&M as Robert Shaw of Axe Yard. She was buried on 5 August 1660 in St Margaret’s, Westminster.
