  • Summarized from L&M Companion:

Third generation of a family of surgeons, James (d. 1638) probably the surgeon to whom Pepys’s surgeon, Thomas Hollier, was apprenticed. His son Edward, http://www.pepysdiary.com/p/6847.php , (d. 1663) succeeded to his father’s posts as surgeon at St. Thomas’s Hospital and lithotomist at St. Thomas and Barts. His son James (bapt. 1631, d. 1687) succeeded him at Thomas’s and was appointed surgeon to the Royal Household in 1680.
