(c.1612 - 83) Organ and virginal player, tuner and repairer. Pupil of Nicholas Lanier, ( http://www.pepysdiary.com/p/9388.php ) musician-in-ordinary to Charles I, state organist to Oliver Cromwell, musician-in-ordinary and keeper of the instruments to Charles II. Composer, chiefly of fancies for strings. [John Blow was his pupil and Purcell his apprentice. MR]
