kt. (1677 (1633-92) Fellow of Magdalene College 1652-?55; M.P. for High Wyckombe 1673-9; for Cambridge University 1689-90, 1690-2; Attorney General 1681-7. Once Pepys’s Chamber-fellow at Magdalene ( http://www.pepysdiary.com/archive/1666/11/26/ ). An able lawyer with a reputation for subservience to the court (redeemed by his defence of the Seven Bishops, 1688) and for pedantry. His wife (m. 1665) was Margaret, daughter of Ralph Sukley of Islington.
