Margaret Lowther married Lt. John Holmes on April 6, 1668, when he was 28. They lived on the Isle of Wight for most of their marriage while he pursued a distinguished naval career, being knighted in 1672. He was a member of Parliament between 1677 and 1681. They had one daughter and two sons.
