Daily entries from the 17th century London diary
"...of Alderman Viner upon my pretended freight of the "William" for Tangier..."
The "William"is frequently mentioned in the "Calendar of state Papers,"1664-65. In November, 1664, Captain George Erwin was appointed commander of the ship.
This is a merchantman and appears in the fleet list of April 1665 as hired, 130 men and Captain William Bass, and being at St. Helena. In September 1665 it is a designated fireship still under Bass.
