I assume this ship is named after the Battle of Cheriton, which took place in March 1644

The Cheriton was renamed the Speedwell in the mass renaming described at http://www.pepysdiary.com/diary/1660/05/23/Under either identity it was a fifth-rate of twenty guns built at Deptford in 1655 by Mr. Callis.per Wheatley
