Capt. Doves. Possibly Capt. Douce (of the Pembroke 1665). The name (written by Pepys in longhand) might be read as 'Dows': in which case he might be Henry Dawes, who commanded the John and Thomas in 1665-6 and was killed in the Princess in 1667. (Companion)
