Pupil of Nicholas Lanier, ( http://www.pepysdiary.com/encyclopedia/9388/ ) musician-in-ordinary to Charles I, state organist to Oliver Cromwell, musician-in-ordinary and keeper of the instruments to Charles II. Composer, chiefly of fancies for strings. [John Blow was his pupil and Purcell his apprentice. MR]
