kt., 1674. A not very successful clerk to Sir W, Coventry, dismissed for idleness in 1667, he entered the Treasury as a clerk and rose to become First Clerk (1673), Clerk to the Privy Council (1674) and Commissioner of the Hearth Tax (1685).
