Could this Captain Francis Steward be the son born 29.11.1625 of Francis (died 1646 buried 31st July) by Rebeta (Roberta) daughter of Richard Hoo. Therefore brother of Sir Hoo (Hoe)Steward, baptised 7th March 1621/2 a bencher of Grays Inn. The family had Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire connections similar to Pepys.
STEWARD, Francis,—was made commander of the Happy Entrance, and afterwards of the Sancta Maria, both in the year 1665. He had the charge of a very valuable fleet from Hull in the month of February, and with the greatest diligence and success convoyed it safely, notwithstanding the sea was at that time almost covered with Dutch cruisers.
